About re;file labs
re;file labs is an independent engineering project focused on building privacy-first file tools that run directly in your browser: fast, transparent, and serverless.
The idea started with a simple frustration: why should converting or compressing a file require uploading it to someone else's server? From that question grew a platform dedicated to client-side computing, bringing desktop-level performance and privacy to the web.
Every tool is powered by WebAssembly, which means complex file operations like image conversion, metadata editing, and PDF manipulation run entirely on your device. Your files never leave your computer.
Every tool is built to be:
- Private. All processing happens locally in your browser.
- Fast. WebAssembly delivers near-native performance without plugins.
- Honest. No accounts, no uploads. We collect anonymous analytics via Swetrix to understand how tools are used, nothing more.
re;file labs is built in Germany by a single developer, with a focus on open web standards and respect for user data. The long-term goal is to make the browser the safest place to handle your files, one WASM module at a time.
